More than 50 high school marching bands entertained fans with their inspiring field programs Saturday during the last segment of the US Scholastic Band Association (USSBA) All-States Championship series held at J.Birney Crum Stadium in Allentown, Pa. The day started early as bands in three groups - Classes I - III A - competed in the circuit's last day of shows, ending a fabulous 10-week run of high school marching band galas. The number of bands competing in each class was large, each group putting everything into their shows that for some was the last of the fall season. An astounding 21 bands competed in Class IA with Rustin High School taking first place with a score of 92.05. South Hadley High School claimed the second spot with 90.875 while Joseph Case High School earned third place, scoring at total of 88.775. Manville High School followed in fourth place, the band's score 88.7 while the competition for fifth place was stiff. Sun Valley High School and Perryville High School tied for fifth place, both scoring 88.55. In the popular colorguard and percussion caption awards, the accolades were spread among two bands in Class IA. Joseph Case High School took first place in colorguard while the South Hadley High School percussion section was recognized with the award. The Class II A competition was stiff and scores were close with 17 bands vying for placement. Whitehall High School took first place with a score of 90.375. Close behind in second place was Sayreville War Memorial High School, their score 90.3, and Delaware Valley Regional High School took third with a score of 88.3. North Rockland High School scored 85.775, earning fourth place and Brick Township High School claimed fifth place with a score of 85.325. Sayreville High School ran away with both the colorguard and percussion caption awards in Class II A. Another 17 bands brought the field to life in Class III A competition with shepherd Hill High School coming out on top. With a score of 92.425, shepherd Hill took first place in the largest groups competing that day. Pitman High School claimed second place with a score of 89.025 while Burlington City High School was awarded third place, their score 87.2. Voorhees High School's performance garnered them a score of 86.275 to take fourth place while Northern Burlington County High School earned fifth with a score of 85.95. The Class III A competition saw one school dominate the colorguard and percussion awards with shepherd Hill High School taking first place in both. The USSBA staff couldn't have asked for a better day, or group of bands to take part in such a wonderful event. It was the cap on a series of All-States Championship festivals that began the weekend of Nov. 4 - 5 in Allentown and Hershey, Pa., where nearly 130 bands competed in other class sizes within the circuit.
